Turlock Youth Injured in Auto Accident

Mauricio Alaniz, 19, of Turlock was critically injured in an auto addicent on Wednesday when 60-year-old Cherry Crawford, of Riverbank, swerved into his vehicle on McHenry Avenue in Modesto. Alaniz, a basketball player for Modesto Junior College, suffered severe brain injuries in the collision, and remains in critical condition at Memorial Medical Center.

Child Killed in Kerman Auto Accident

Vanessa Zamano, 9, of Kerman, was killed Monday night in a two-vehicle collision southeast of Kerman. The girl's father, Francisco Zamano, wsa northbound on Henderson Road, with Vanessa and another child as passengers in his Plymouth Neon. According to police, Zamano failed to obey a stopsign at the intersection of Henderson Road and McMullin Grade. Martha Decenteno, traveling westbound on McMullin in a Chevy Suburban, struck Zamano's vehicle, killing Vanessa and injuring Zamano and the other child.

Teen Killed in ATV Crash

Jordan Kedwards, 17, of Clovis, was killed Tuesday in an ATV accident in Madera County. Kedwards was a passenger on an ATV driven by 24 year-old Bonnie Pendergast. Pendergast lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, killing Kedwards. Pendergast was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Pleasonton Accident Kills One, Injures Two

A two-car motor vehicle collision in Pleasonton on Saturday resulted in the death of a 19 year-old girl, and the serious injury of two others. The auto accident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, on Foothill Road in Pleasonton. The 19 year-old driver of a Ford Mustang, southbound on Foothill Road, collided head-on with a Mercedes SUV traveling northbound. Laurel Williams, a passenger in the Mustang, died at the scene. The driver of the Mustang, and the driver of the SUV, were both transported to Eden Medical Center with serious injuries. Police say alcohol may have been involved, and are continuing to investigate.

Palm Desert Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

Robert Kolbeck, 65, of Palm Desert, California, was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on September 28, Kolbeck and his wife Carol, were morthbound on State Rout 247 near Victorville when Kolbeck apparently lost control of his vehicle. The motorcycle, a 2007 Harley Davidson Ultra, ran off the road and overturned. Kolbeck suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Palm Desert Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The California Highway Patrol states that drugs and alcohol did not appear to be involved in the incident. The investigation is on-going.

Fresno Man Dies in Auto Accident

Jesus Reyes of Fresno died Wednesday afternoon in a two-car automobile accident in Fresno County. Reyes was eastbound on Adams Avenue and failed to stop at the intersection with Cornelia Avenue. A Nissan pickup truck, southbound on Cornelia, struck Reyes' vehicle in the intersection. Reyes was ejected from his Ford Explorer and struck his head on a metal grapevine post. Reyes was declared dead at the scene.

Car Accident on 101 Kills One

A deadly 4-car automobile accident on Highway 101 in Menlo Park resulted in the death of one person on Monday. In the first auto accident, a Ford Mustang collided with a Toyata Celica, blocking the northbound lanes. Immediately after the first collision, an Acura Integra and a Toyota Camry collided with the first vehicles. The driver of the Celica suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene; the drivers of the Camry and the Acura suffered moderate injuries and were transported to Stanford Medical Center; The California Highway Patrol reports that the driver of the Ford Mustang was arrested on the scene for driving under the influence.

Fatal Auto Accident Kills One in San Francisco

Zhang Bailan, a 37-year-old resident of San Franciso, has been arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence following a fatal automobile accident on Highway 101 in San Franciso Monday morning. Bailan was southbound on Highway 101 when he veered from the driving lane onto the shoulder, where William Lemus and Rodolfo Armenpa were fixing a flat tire on Lemus' car. Bailan's car apparently struck both Lemus and Armenpa, killing Lemus and injuring Armenpa. Bailan's passenger, Elizabeth Lam, also of San Francisco, was arrested along with Bailan and charged with giving false information to a police officer.

Fresno Man Dies in Bay Bridge Crash

Randy Madrigal, 39, of Fresno, was killed in a motor vehicle accident on the Bar Bridge in San Francisco early Saturday morning. Madrigal was westbound on the bridge when his Toyota Tacoma pickup slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer rig carrying steel rebar. The truck had slowed to exit the Bridge at the Treasure Island off-ramp when Madrigal drove into the back of the truck. Madrigal was air-lifted to San Franciso General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Deadly Automobile Accident Kills 3 Children in Tulare County

A deadly automobile accident on Saturday killed 3 children in Tulare County. Tulare County Deputy Sheriff Joseph Armstrong was on his way to work in his pickup truck at about 1:00 p.m. when he ran a stop sign and collided with an SUV driven by Tanya Rader. Three children inside the SUV, ages two, three and five, died in the collision. Armstrong and Rader, both seriously hurt, were airlifted to Fresno Community Hospital, where Armstrong is in critical condition. News sources report that Armstrong was not wearing a seatbelt.
