In a deadly auto accident on Saturday, Danika Hayashi was driving southbound on Highway 395 in Kern County, at about 70 mph, when she decided to pass another southbound vehicle. Maybe she didn't look before passing, maybe she was just careless, but after she entered the northbound lane and saw a northbound vehicle approaching, she moved even further, into the northbound shoulder; there she lost control and swerved back into the northbound lane, hitting the on-coming vehicle head on. Although Danika suffered only minor injuries, a 46 year old passenger in the northbound vehicle was killed, and so was a 14 year old passenger in Danika's vehicle; another passenger in Danika's vehicle, 15 years old, suffered major injuries.
